Lypolysis

  • Consultation: 45-60 min
  • Procedure: 30 min per session
  • Recovery: 3-5 days
  • Duration of results: years

What is it?

Lipolysis is a new method of removing fat from the body, a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. In 2002 a Brazilian cosmetic surgeon discovered that repeat injections of a substance called Lipostabil, or 5% Phosphatidyl solution, can be an effective method of dissolving fat. This substance has been used in medicine such as cardiology for years to dissolve cholesterol and fat deposits in arteries. Phosphatidyl is not FDA approved in the United States but is showing a lot of potential for dissolving small deposits of fat around the face and body.

What happens?

Patients will require monthly lypolysis injections for four to five months to achieve the desired results. The injections do cause a certain amount of discomfort, and patients can expect mild bruising and swelling which lasts a few days. Small areas can generally be treated more effectively than larger areas.

This procedure is not for everyone, however – ask us about this liposuction of the future to see if you are a candidate.
